Remembering the American Nisei Soldiers.
80 Years of Friendship
1944-2024
United States - France
With the help of the French Resistance, in October - November of 1944, the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team liberated the Vosges towns of Bruyeres, Biffontaine, Laval-sur-Vologne, and Belmont.
This card was created and produced by the "Stamp Our Story" (formerly "The Nisei World War II Stamp Campaign" up to 2016). They were instrumental in getting the 442nd Commemorative stamp approved and it was subsequently released in 2021. The card is postmarked with the date October 19, 2024 with one of the stamps. In France on this date they had a ceremony like they do every year to commemorate the 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team and their sacrifices.
The soldier who's pictured on the stamp is Shiroku Whitey Yamamoto. He has a personal attachment to the US Army Museum of Hawaii and the Hawaii Army Museum Society, as he was a volunteer at the museum for over 30 years, during this period he was recognized as volunteer of the year twice. He knew his picture was being used for the stamp but he sadly passed away in 2018 before the stamp was released in 2021. We at the museum miss him dearly.
