South Vietnamese Naval Junk Forces Badge
The U.S. Navy began wearing the black beret with the South Vietnamese Naval Junk Forces Badge in the 1960's. Using shallow draft boats armed with cannons and machine guns to patrol rivers and canals, the junks were used to cut the supply lines coming from North Vietnam and the Viet Cong. The pin was only worn in the theater of operations in South Vietnam.
